No Country for Old Men
The first time I saw the film, I was struck by No Country for Old Men’s silence. Though violent and grim in many respects, the film never leans on the assistance of cinematic soundtrack to bolster dramatic tension. In an attempt to evoke the same sentiment visually in this poster, I carefully chose postcards of desolate Texan landscapes and iteratively built/destroyed my way through letterforms for the title. Composing these forms meaningfully was a challenge until I did a little homework: Robert Rauschenberg’s print works proved to be exceptionally helpful references.
